What do you do when your hair is in that weird not-short-but-not-long phase? You put it up into a bunch of messy buns on your head! Rock goddess Gwen Stefani served as the inspo for this hairstyle. The 12-year-old in me still gets a thrill every time I see Gwen in a new look. She will always be the girl power rocker of my dreams!

Rat tail comb

Bowl of Water

3 elastic hair ties that match or approximate your hair color

If your hair is on the thinner side, you might want to backcomb the roots and spray on some dry shampoo before you begin to add some extra volume.

Step 1: Pull back a vertical section of hair going back from the corners of your forehead, using your comb to create straight parts on either side.

Step 2: Beginning at the front of your section, twist hair to one side, adding more hair to the twist as you move toward the back of your head, stopping at the back of your crown.

Step 3: Secure twisted hair with an elastic, folding the hair into a messy bun.

Step 4: Dip your comb into water

Step 5: Use the wet comb to pull back half the hair remaining on each side of your head, creating a straight part with the comb.

Step 6: Secure with an elastic in another messy bun.

Step 7: Grab the remaining section of hair and secure into a messy bun.
