It's no surprise that Celene and I have very different skin tones. Celene, with her mix of Norwegian, Sicilian, and Spanish heritage usually wears a shade of foundation well into the medium/golden range, whereas I with my Scandinavian complexion always wear the very fairest shade. So when the two of us find red lipsticks that look good on both of us, we feel the need to spread the news. After all, if the two of us can flaunt the same hue, it's probably a good sign it's a universally flattering color!

1: Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Color in 39 La Sompteueuse This Chanel formula is amazing. It's a decidedly matte lip, but still has a creamy texture that makes it comfortable to wear and easy to apply. The shade is dark and vampy with a blue base that makes your teeth look extra white. On cooler skintones (like mine) it downplays the redness in the skin, while it actually seems to accentuate the rosy cheeks in warm skintones like Celene's.

2: NARS Lipstick in Heat Wave NARS calls this shade a semi matte, but to be honest, it's pretty darn matte. This formula is one of my favorites--stiffer than the Chanel, making it easier to get precise definition but at the cost of that creaminess. It's a very orange-leaning red that has a fun, summery vibe. It makes my skin tone a little warmer (and dare I say tanner?) and brings out Celene's gorgeous golden undertones.

3: Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary: I actually worked at Smashbox when they launched their new lipstick line, and I remember being obsessed with this shade from the get go. It is what Celene and I have dubbed the perfect holiday red. It's a true red, with a good mix of blue and yellow undertones, and has a fun glossy finish that sort of screams "Kiss me under the mistletoe." It leans a little pinker on me than on Celene, but it's still an all around amazing staple red.
