For those of you out there that don't know, I have hippy-dippy parents.  My mom's house is covered in crystals, my dad grows all of his own veggies and fruits and he believes spit is nature's cure-all.  Between the two of them, I have absorbed some wacky tendencies of my own.  The most recent of which is my obsession with unfiltered apple cider vinegar.

It all started when my pup, Opie, came down with a severe case of hives.  I was at my wit's end trying to identify the cause of his allergy.  It was also incredibly difficult to find an all natural alternative to chemical anti-itch creams.  After poking around on google for a bit, unfiltered apple cider vinegar came up as a viable option for soothing irritated skin.  So, I whipped out the bottle, added some water, and dabbed it on.  Sure enough, the hives went down a bit. Though he smelled quite sour, I was relieved to see him stop itching!

Turns out that unfiltered apple cider vinegar (or ACV for short) is super healthy for humans too, in a variety of ways.  I remember my parents adding it to salad dressing, juices, even drinking it straight from the bottle.  The health benefits of ACV begin with enzyme strands rich in bacteria, called "the mother."  This is the same stuff found in Kombucha.  If you are interested in trying a bottle, be sure to pick up the ACV labeled with "the mother," otherwise you will be drinking straight vinegar and apple juice.  To get started, try out 2 tablespoons a day.  If you can handle drinking it straight, power to you.  Otherwise, water it down or add it to a glass of juice.
