As happenstance would have it, I discovered a new little "old world" today out in Venice. Beckoning just off of the Abbot Kinney sidewalk is a quite impressive, quite remarkable boutique called Strange Invisible Perfumes. With fragrances so completely fresh and organic they only rival the live ingredients themselves, my nose (and my eyes!) could not get enough. These original perfumes are hand blended in Venice using custom distilled espirit de Cognac (the original base alcohol used by perfumers in sixteenth century France) and organic, hydro-distilled essences. Owner and master perfumer, Alexandra Balahoutis, has made it her mission to bring these wildcrafted, authentic botanical essences to the modern world using age old techniques and a discerning (entirely ingenious) perspective on fragrance.
Bath and beauty from around the world.
Beyond the perfumes is an array of internationally curated beauty products. The selections are a much needed departure from your typical chemical creams; instead, these rely solely on the power of natural ingredients to heal and protect the body. If you are assembling a wish list, wish for Strange Invisible. It's magical.
